Live Dealer Tables at The Star Sydney
At The Star Sydney we run live dealer table games 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across two separate gaming floors at 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont. Roulette, blackjack, baccarat and several other card and dice formats are dealt by real people in real time - no electronic simulation running the show, no random number generator behind the scenes. Every spin and every hand is dealt right in front of you on the felt.
We operate the only licensed casino in New South Wales, and by floor size we are the second-largest casino in Australia. Oversight of the venue sits with the NSW Casino Control Authority. As of 2026, we continue to operate under an independent manager appointed by that regulator, with licence conditions extended through September 2026. For guests on the floor, day-to-day gaming carries on under that supervised structure.
Roulette
On the main and upper floors you will find two roulette variants. Single-zero French roulette offers the lower house edge, and is usually the default choice for players who pay close attention to odds and return. Double-zero American roulette is spread as well for those who prefer that format. Both versions run on a rolling basis, with live dealers on the wheel throughout the day and night.
Table minimums and maximums are not fixed - they move with the table, the area and the time of day. Separate high-limit roulette areas operate away from the main floor. Before you sit down, it is worth checking the current limits with the dealer or nearby floor staff, because those numbers do change over time.
Blackjack on the Floor
Most blackjack on the main floor at The Star Sydney is dealt from six-deck continuous shuffling machines (CSM). Standard table minimums generally sit around AU$30, while maximums on some tables reach roughly AU$2,000. We also spread traditional shoe games, with penetration reported at around 80%. That figure is approximate and does vary from dealer to dealer and shift to shift.
CSM tables effectively reshuffle after every hand, which is important to understand if you are thinking about card counting or tracking decks. Shoe games with stronger penetration are less common on the floor but they are available. The most practical approach is simple: ask a floor staff member what format, shoe or CSM, a particular table is using before you buy in.
| Game Type | Format | Approx. Min Bet (AUD) | Approx. Max Bet (AUD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| French Roulette | Single-zero | Varies by table | Varies by table |
| American Roulette | Double-zero | Varies by table | Varies by table |
| Blackjack (CSM) | Six-deck CSM | ~AU$30 | ~AU$2,000 (some tables) |
| Blackjack (Shoe) | Six-deck shoe | Varies | Varies |
| Baccarat | Standard | Varies by table | Varies by table |
Baccarat is spread on multiple sections of the floor, and the table limits and sometimes the exact format change. Floor staff remain the quickest way to confirm what limits and side bets are currently in play at any given table.
Getting to the Live Dealer Floor
Access to the gaming floors comes with a few conditions that apply to every visitor. The Star Sydney applies a dress code and standard conditions of entry to the casino. You must be of legal gambling age under NSW law, and entry to the tables is via designated access points inside the broader complex.
The process when you arrive usually feels like this:
- Make your way to The Star Sydney complex at 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont, in Sydney.
- Head to a casino entry point and have valid photo ID ready in case staff request it.
- Check that what you are wearing meets the dress code before you move up to the floor entrance.
- Pick up a floor map from staff, or follow the overhead signage through to the table game areas.
- Decide what you want to play - roulette, blackjack, baccarat, or another table game.
- Walk up to the table, wait for the dealer to look up and acknowledge you before you start placing chips.
- Swap cash for chips either directly at the table or at a cashier cage on the floor.
- Ask the dealer to confirm the table minimum before you place your first bet.
Our floors operate continuously, so there is no fixed “session” timetable for the standard live tables. High-limit rooms can have separate access rules or times, so if you are planning to play there, it helps to check in at the floor entrance or with a host before heading straight through.
One simple but practical detail applies anywhere you sit down: always confirm the table minimum before you commit to a seat, not after your first hand hits the felt. It sounds basic, but it avoids awkward moments and unnecessary buy-ins.
Star Poker - The Live Dealer Poker Room
Star Poker is our dedicated live poker room within The Star Sydney complex. We spread cash games around the clock with live dealers at every table, and we run a rotating tournament schedule alongside that cash action. Current tournament formats include Big Bounty, Deep Freeze, Super Turbo Freezeout and Super Deep Stack. The exact mix on any given week can change, so checking ahead is usually a smart move.
For live cash games, the flow is straightforward:
- Follow the internal signage inside the complex until you reach the Star Poker room.
- Look over the current cash game board or listings posted at the poker room entrance.
- If the game you want is full, add your name to the waiting list with the front desk team.
- Once you are called and seated, buy in for at least the listed table minimum.
- The live dealer manages the deal, the pot movements and the general pace of play for the whole session.
- If at any point you would like to change seats or move tables, speak to the floor supervisor and they will handle it.
Tournament registration is handled on a different process to cash games and has its own desk and timings. Before you travel in, you can view the current tournament schedule at starpoker.com.au/sydney/table-games.
